Hello,

I have 53,000 miles and my check engine soon light came on.

I checked all the fluid levels and the only one that was low was the
oil. It was about 1/2 full.

Do you know how to shut off the check engine light?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hoopster, you need to fix the problem before the light will go off. Your oil
wont set off the CIL, you need to take it to a tech so they can get the
codes off of the computer. Then fix the problem, and then clear the codes.
BTW what year is this Taurus. IF it was made after 96 then its an OBD II
car, but prior years can sometimes be reset by just unhooking the battery.
If it is an OBDII car, then you have to have a diagnostic code reader to
clear the codes from the PCM's memory. Which would require you to see a tech
anyway. SO best to find out what codes it displays, and then determine if
you want to ignore it. Also remember, there are about a hundred different
sensors on your car, and any one of them can set a code, especially if the
sensor is malfunctioning......
