Ford Pinto 1.8 engine - ignition timing

Hello all,
I have a 1.8l Pinto in my kit car and I am having cooling concerns (i.e.
running hot) if I retard the ignition this improves - but I don't know what
effect this is having on the air/fuel mix/emissions.

Does anyone know what the timing should be from TDC?
